October 29 – November 19, 2025
Here is the exciting itinerary of the Vagabundos BAJA EXPLORER 2025 Caravan, October 29th-November 19th, 2025. This itinerary is time tested and offers ample time in places for you to explore on your own and some opportunities to experience activities well known to us. I expect this caravan to fill up quickly as we are only taking eight rigs to keep the impact on the local services to a minimum. If interested, contact the office at : (707) 374-5511.
10/29, 30: We will gather together at the San Diego County Park (Full hook ups) in Potrero, California, close to Tecate, Mexico, for two nights. The following morning, drive over to Tecate, walk into Mexico and obtain our FMM (Mexican tourist visa), have lunch at a Tecate taco stand and return to Potrero. That evening enjoy a happy hour and discuss the upcoming adventure, beginning the following day.
10/31: Head south in the morning, crossing at the Tecate Point Of Entry (POE) arriving at Rancho Sordo Mundo RV (Full hook ups) in the Valle de Guadalupe (Ruta del Vino) area between Tecate and Ensenada. There we enjoy an escorted wine tasting at two local wineries.
11/1: Up and out in the morning, we’ll travel through the port city of Ensenada, headed to our next destination at the Santa Maria Hotel (Dry Camping) in the Lazaro Cardenas area. Just south of Ensenada, we’ll stop and do some grocery shopping at a local supermarket. We will camp on the hotel grounds, steps away frow the roaring surf of the Pacific Ocean. That evening we can enjoy a happy hour at the hotel bar and a wonderful dinner at their beautiful restaurant.
11/2: Today, we leave the Pacific coast and travel the interior of the peninsular, headed to Catavina. Catavina is a beautiful area of huge boulders and mysterious places. We will arrive at our campsite early enough to carpool the short way to hike up to ancient cave paintings. These cave paintings are over 1000 years old, made by the Cochmi people. Our campsite is in a beautiful, undeveloped area of historical significancs. This is where the Trans-Peninsula Highway was completed, north and south crews met here to complete the new road. The area is wild and on a clear night, star gazing is spectacular.
11/3: Today, we travel to Guerrero Negro, arriving at Malarrimo Hotel/RV (Full Hook-ups). Grocery shopping is available as well as some of the best fish and shrimp tacos in all of Baja. Malarrimo’s has a wonderful restaurant where we can enjoy good food and company.
11/4: Continuing our journey south, we head over to the Pacific coast to Bahia Asuncion, a beautiful small fishing village overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We arrive early enough for those who wish to try some fishing will be able to do so. (no Mexican fishing license required if fishing from the shore) We will camp on a bluff at the La Bufadora Inn (dry camping).
11/5: A short drive to San Ignacio. Here we will camp at El Padrino (full hook-ups), close to the town and the beautiful mission, all within walking distance. Town boasts interesting shops and places to eat, a place for a lovely evening meal.
11/6,7: Back on the road headed south. Today, we travel through some beautiful desert and the infamous “Cuestra del Inferno”, headed to the beautiful Santispac Beach (Dry Camping) for two nights of beach front camping. Santispac has two good open-air restaurants and local vendors who offer their goods “almost free”! In the past we were able to charter a panga boat to explore some of the off shore islands and dig for clams. This is always a great stop, lots to do or just relax.
11/ 8, 9, 10, 11: After a short drive we arrive in Loreto, staying at the Rivera Del Mar RV campground (full hook-ups) for four nights. This campground is within walking distance to restaurants and attractions. Very convenient. While in Loreto, we will be transported to the beautiful San Javier Mission to tour and enjoy an authentic Mexican lunch at a working rancho. There is also ample time for those who wish, to charter a panga for some deep-sea fishing. Great restaurants and shopping are available to explore, or just enjoying the local customs.
11/12: We begin the trip north headed to Mulege, camping at the Maria Isabell RV (full hook-ups) for one night. Mulege is a beautiful colonial village ready to explore.

11/14, 15: Today we head to Bahia de Los Angeles for two nights, staying at Campo Archelon, (dry camping) on the shore of the bay. Campo Archelon offers a great little restaurant and coffee shop. It’s an eco-friendly campground run by the young owners. While in Bahia de Los Angeles, we will be able to visit the local museum and possibly take an eco-tour to the off shore islands looking for marine life. Later we will enjoy a meal at my friends’ restaurant overlooking the Sea of Cortez, always a great evening, with killer margaritas.
11/16: One last night camping on the shore of the Sea Of Cortez at Rancho Grande campground (dry camping) in Gonzaga Bay. Weather permitting, we enjoy one last campfire, relive our adventures and plan our next.
11/17, 18: Headed to San Felipe for our last two nights. We will be camping at Victors RV (full hook ups), conveniently located within walking distance to the malacon. Great stop for any last-minute shopping. Victors has a very nice ocean front restaurant and cantina, which is enjoyable.
11/19: Up early, on our way to Mexicali and the Mexicali East POE, headed back to the good old USA. We’ll say our good-byes once back in the States and head home. (I always make a stop at In and Out in El Centro)
To keep the costs inline, this is a pay as you go. Each rig will be responsible to pay any costs to camp, and meals or activities we enjoy together. Our fee is $200. Join me for an exciting Baja adventure, we’ll have a blast!!
