40th Annual Crab Feed
June 1 - 4 2017
The 40th Annual Fiesta Grande Crab Feed is going to be the best one yet! We are also changing the menu some and are adding something special. No need to worry about seating in the outdoor pavilion because the Lighthouse has an indoor Club House that has plenty of room for everyone. All RV sites are back-in and are $45 per night. The Cabins are limited - 10 cabins available at the Lighthouse, 10 cabins available at B&W Resort Marina located 2 miles from the Lighthouse on the beautiful Delta Loop. There are plenty of motel rooms close by at I-5 and Highway 12, Flag City.
Thursday June 1 – We will kick off this event with our favorite Pigmeister Fred Eberle and his able assistant, Dee, and a crew of volunteers at the Annual Pig Roast. Bring your famous potluck dish to share. $12 per ticket. Reserve your tickets early. This usually goes to wait list.
Friday June 2 – For something different, we are considering changing this to tri-tip. It will be catered and started off by margaritas. Let us know your thoughts. The Golf Extravaganza will be held again at Swenson Park - see below.
Saturday June 3 – Prelude to the Main Event is the Chili Cookoff at 11 am near the beer truck. The 40th Annual Crab Feed will begin with our favorite music - Bob Romans and the Cellblock 7 Jazz Band. Mahoney’s Seafood will bring us the best Dungeness crab around as they have been doing for more than 20 years. We will get delicious artichokes from the artichoke capital of California, fresh baked sourdough from San Francisco AND we are adding shrimp to the menu this year. You do not want to miss this. It also includes the Budweiser beer truck and white wine. $55 per ticket.
Sunday June 4 – You survived the weekend, now join us at the survivor’s potluck breakfast. The dishes made for this breakfast are so delicious you will want to try them all.
You will make all reservations with the Vagabundos office – call now 800-474-BAJA.
|The 2016 Vagabundos Del Mar Golf Extravaganza hosted some 53 players at Stockton’s Swenson Park. The event is always held the Friday before the annual crab feed. The weather was great but warm and the course was in great shape. This year’s tournament was large enough that we were able to have a shotgun start giving all players a chance to meet at the clubhouse at the end of the tournament and enjoy partaking of the dollar a glass beer, delicious tri-tip sandwiches, and a chance to make some new friends. Swenson Park also hosted a fine raffle which featured prizes of Wine, Wine tasting events, dinners at fine restaurants and of course golf outings at a number of Northern California’s outstanding courses. All proceeds were donated to Vagabundos Del Mar to help defray the costs of the Crab Feed. All participants in the tournament received a gift bag - thanks to International Insurance Group -ABA/Seguros; Nationwide Insurance; Guaranteed Rate Lending, and Wells Fargo Bank. Each player also received a personalized Vagabundos Del Mar 50th Anniversary Golf Ball. This year the Grand prize winner is Bill Borden of Cool, California. Bill wins one week lodging at the Vagabundos del Mar Condos in Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico and four rounds of golf at Swenson Park. Other division winners: In the Calloway Division Steve Zigler took 1st with Linda Prideaux claiming 2nd, Jack Wildberger grabbed 3rd, Rob Forderhase squeezed in for 4th, and Bill Ewing hung on getting 5th place money. In the Handicap Low Net Division Susan Levy took 1st place honors with Dennis Swanson grabbing 2nd, Roger Cwiak claimed 3rd, Jerry Prideaux finished in 4th place and Helen Swanson held on to take 5th place money. In the Low Gross Division the winner was Nacho Sanchez with Gary Mertz taking 2nd place and Jim Labelle 3rd. Patrick Forderhause claimed 4th place and John Hawkins held on for 5th. Last but not least, the men’s accuracy drive was won by Bill Borden with 2 inches. Joyce Bass won women’s accuracy. Closest to the pin honors for the men was won by Keith Levy with Rui Cunha taking 2nd. Jeanne Lambson knocked it closest for the women with Helen Swanson taking 2nd. I want to congratulate all the winners and give fair warning that the IRS may be watching to see if your winnings are shown on your 2016 tax returns. Near as I can tell everyone had a fine time. We have received some very positive feedback. Your suggestions are always welcome and appreciated. We are already in the process of planning next year’s golf event. Again our motto is “Bring a Friend” and sign up early for the Vagabundos del Mar Golf Extravaganza , Pig Roast and Chili Cook Off. Where can you find more fun than at the Vagabundos del Mar annual meeting? Just when you think it can’t get any better, it does.- Cindy Stewart, Golf Tournament Director|
