Wherever you may travel throughout the world, a Travel MedEvac premium medical evacuation plan may be the single most important coverage you should obtain when traveling.
We do not restrict medical evacuation to the "nearest adequate facility" as other plans do. "Nearest Adequate Facility" limitations found in other plans could leave you far from home, in foreign countries, away from your doctors, away from your healthcare network, and away from your family. Travel MedEvac brings you to your home hospital of choice where you can get the continued care you need, where you want it, from your trusted hospital and doctors.
If you are traveling more than 150 miles from your home, and you are admitted to a hospital for a critical injury or illness and you are in need of a medical evacuation, our partner Air Ambulance Worldwide will manage your medical evacuation utilizing a highly accredited network of experienced air ambulance providers to bring you home.
We offer true insurance that is regulated; we are not an unregulated membership program. We specialize and offer Medical Evacuation insurance specifically to fly you home to your hospital of choice in the event of a medical emergency.
Travel MedEvac plans are underwritten by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and Affiliated A+ rated insurance companies. Many non-insurance, assistance type medical evacuation plans are not regulated by any Department of Insurance. In the event of a coverage dispute and to provide assurance that you are protected, buying a regulated insurance product is always in your best interest.
When it comes to providing an air ambulance transport, having an insurance plan is only part of the equation. The true key is having a highly accredited provider with the experienced professionals in place to manage all the logistics an air medical transport demands. Below are a few of the more frequent questions
we receive concerning Travel MedEvac Insurance. If you have specific questions
or concerns not answered here, don't hesitate to call the Vagabundos office at (800) 474-2252.
Q. Who is eligible for Travel MedEvac?
A. United States residents or those with a USA mailing address under the age of 85 in all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. You can apply with pre-existing conditions and with no waiting period so long as the plan is purchased in advance of your trip departure. If a plan is purchased the day of your departure, the plan will go into effect at the time it is purchased. If an insured is hospitalized or has a planned or scheduled hospitalization known at the time of application, or travels against the advice of medical professionals, the medical transport will not be covered for any issues related to these circumstances.
Q. Who should buy a Travel MedEvac plan?
A. Whether you are traveling for business or leisure, are departing on a one-time trip, or you are a frequent traveler or residing away from your home country, having a Travel MedEvac premium medical evacuation plan, which will take you to your home hospital of choice, is the best way to prepare for the unexpected.
Q. Are any countries excluded from your Global Plan coverage?
A.Coverage applies when you are more than 150 miles from home (U.S. Residents) or outside your home country (non U.S. residents). Certain countries may have restrictions on arranging services for medical transport in some instances, and services are not guaranteed. These countries currently include Algeria, Chad, Chechnya, Congo DR, Cuba, Iran, Ivory Coast, Liberia, North Korea, Palestinian Territories, Sierra Leone, Republic of South Sudan, Republic of Sudan, Syria and Somalia and are subject to change.
Q. What is the difference between Travel MedEvac and Travel Insurance, Health Benefits and Premium Credit Cards?
A. Typical emergency medical, trip cancellation and lost luggage coverage plans either do not cover or severely limit any potential medical evacuation coverage to the “nearest adequate facility”. This still leaves you stranded far from your home hospital where you may endure financial limits and adequacy of care concerns from the medical treatment you receive away from home. Unlike these policies, your Travel MedEvac policy will provide you with hospital-to-hospital air medical transport to your home hospital of choice with no deductibles or out of pocket costs for medical evacuation services.
Q. Is there any portion of the air medical transport not covered?
A. Our preferred provider will manage all of your care from hospital-to-hospital which includes air medical transport, ground ambulance transports, all medical crews and pilots, plus all medications and medical devices needed for your successful return.
Q. If I have a pre-existing condition can I apply for a Travel MedEvac Plan?
A. Yes, you can apply with pre-existing conditions and with no waiting period so long as the plan is purchased in advance of your trip departure. If a plan is purchased the day of your departure, the plan will go into effect at the time it is purchased. If an insured is hospitalized or has a planned or scheduled hospitalization known at the time of application or travels against the advice of medical professionals the medical transport will not be covered for any issues related to these circumstances.
