LORETO DORADO TOURNAMENT

Tournament and Hotel Information

July 1-4, 2007

Dorado
Nice Dorado from a past event

We’ll be back in Loreto with this very popular tournament. This is going to be another year to rival the last for big dorado and many billfish. The La Pinta Hotel location was so favorable last time, that we will make it our headquarters this year too. Contact them directly for rooms at 011-52-613-135-0025. We hope to have an email address, also. Arturo’s Sportfishing does well for boats, 011-52-613-135-0766, email: arturosport@prodigy.net.mx. Registration will be on Sunday, July 1, the three-day tournament on July 2-4 and the Awards Banquet the last night. If you are interested in traveling down with a group, check with Vag HQ (800) 474-2252. The registration fees will be determined. Call Vag HQ to sign up and pay the fee. Also check the Vag Forum setup for this activity.

Early lodging reservations area must, and you are on your own for them. A list of hotels, phone and fax numbers is below. Panga reservations are on your own, also.

Tournament Reservations can be made by calling HQVDM at (800) 474-BAJA (2252).

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Following is a summary of the Tournament Rules. More detailed written rules will be available at the July 1 orientation meeting. This is a FUN Tournament and we rely on your good sportsmanship. Family participation is encouraged and rewarded by acknowledging all 16 and under anglers.
The Tournament organizers reserve the right to change rules and regulations to reflect local fishing conditions and angler participation in tackle categories. Interpretation of rules and awarding of trophies is the sole responsibility of the organizers.

  1. This a three-day Tournament for dorado only. Anglers may leave at any time in the morning that they feel is safe. Fish must be on the beach available for weighing no later than 2 p.m for boats leaving from the Loreto Marina area. The time is extended one hour for boats originating at Puerto Escondido or Juncalito. The beach weigh-in location will be announced at the orientation meeting.
  2. There is only one fishing tackle category - the conventional one, with no restrictions.
  3. Current Mexican fishing and boat permits must be in your possession at all times. Mexican fishing and Loreto Marine Park regulations must be observed without exception, including purchasing a daily wrist band from the Marine Park office at the launch ramp, which we will assist in providing.
  4. Every fish weighed receives one ticket for a door prize drawing. Every fish donated to the dinner receives two tickets.
  5. Trophies:
The largest fish overall Grand Prize will be a nice Shimano, Okuma Titus two-speed, lever-drag reel containing lots of line and an Outer Banks Custom Stick rod. Other nice prizes include a Plano tackle box that converts into a backpack, a ladies raffle prize and a rod and reel for the 16 and under category.

a. There is a limit of one trophy per angler, except for the Just For Fun President’s trophy.
b. Sixteen and under anglers are in their own category and all will receive a trophy.
c. Conventional tackle will have First, Second and Third Places for each day and a Largest Overall trophy. This is the largest of the three daily First Place dorados. The Second and Third Place fish from that day will move up to First and Second respectively. The Third Place trophy for that day is awarded to the largest fish caught on any day that did not otherwise qualify for a trophy.
d. A daily Blind Bogey trophy for any fish weighed in that is the closest to a daily random weight, subject to the one-trophy rule.
e. The Just For Fun President’s trophy has no rules and is exempt from the one-trophy rule. It is awarded by President Tony Schuck or his designate. Please direct any questions to Sheryl at the VDM office.

See you in Loreto! Leader Paulette Gouchie.
