San Felipe to Guaymas Buddy Boat Cruise
April 21 - 30, 2011

Though the cruise dates are from April 21-30, participants can continue past the 30th if they wish.

SCHEDULE AND GPS

April 28 - 30 is the Loreto Festival, which is held at Puerto Escondido. We will be leaving to
lead a Guaymas Lyons Club & Mexican Government rally starting at Puerto Escondido
on May 1, then cruising for 5 days to Santa Rosalia. We will be visiting the sites we just finished seeing. One place different will be Ballandra Bay, Carmen Island.

Vags are welcome to cruise with the group, or cruise around other nearby islands, bays, etc.
There are many American communities, some fishing villages, you can fish, hike, and look for shells. Dorado will be around when the water gets a little warmer. The Baja water is usually a little cooler in may, so wear your wet suits. The weather will turn warmer toward the end of our Baja Cruise, for swimming, and snorkeling (Returning to San Carlos).

We can stay in contact with you on our VHF radio and if you want cruise around for five days. We will join you on may 8 continuing South again in San Juanico, a beautiful area overlooking this serene anchorage. We can meet some or all Vags at San Juanico, where you can take your boats or your dinghies fishing on the other side of the pinnacles. There are lots of delicious Trigger fish around the rocks. Good hiking on land and lots of birds.Concepcion Bay is a neat place to explore with its many coves and bays to anchor.

The shores are sandy, shallow and warmer for swimming. Many Americans have palapa homes, are friendly and love visitors, so dinghy to shore and take a walk

Hike to the petrographs at Burro Cove. Concepcion Bay has 3 restaurants, and you can take your dinghies safely to shore. Purchase a pair of water/hiking shoes, or bring an old pair of tennis shoes just for walking in the water. Fishing is always an option.

Ballandra Bay on Isla Carmen is south of Loreto is a perfect place to anchor. Good fishing in the bay. Insects can be a problem close to shore, plus near the rocky shores. It's a safe area, but sometimes you must change location within the bay to get rid of the insects. Mexican families, children, and scouts set up tents on weekends. It's a good protected bay and fun.

Loreto has a small marina for Mexican pangas. You can anchor, take your dinghies to shore, walk into the city and buy groceries, your dinghies will be safe on shore for a few hours. Ice is sold right at the dock. Don't anchor too near to the shore, or breakwater, as the children will wade out throw mud at your boats. There are several small restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner, across from the small marina and to the left 1 to 3 blocks. There is also a hotel across from the Anchorage. It's a charming, beautiful, city to visit! If you are low on fuel, place your boat in the Little Ponga Marina. Fuel is available and can be delivered.

If you want, you can meander around these three areas waiting, for us, or you can go fishing, and cruise farther South, stopping at new and interesting anchorages on the way to La Paz. At all the bays you will meet friendly Americans and Canadian boaters and they don't mind if you follow them to the next anchorage. We will return, gather you all up and continue South on a cruise. Mexican fisherman will come up to your boat, asking if you want to buy fish, lobster. You can barter with them!
